00:00.000 --> 00:04.600
One of the primary benefits of owning a Chromebook
is the fact that you get regular updates directly

00:04.600 --> 00:08.760
from Google and it doesn't matter who makes
your Chromebook, you get the same version

00:08.760 --> 00:14.620
of Chrome OS as everybody else, assuming
your device is still getting regular updates

00:14.620 --> 00:19.180
The problem with that is, as we've gotten
on in years with Chrome OS, there are more

00:19.180 --> 00:27.640
and more manufacturers making more and more different models of Chromebooks. And
though we're all on the same version of Chrome OS, it gets harder and harder to make

00:27.640 --> 00:31.880
sure that that single version of the operating
system comes out and doesn't have bugs that

00:31.880 --> 00:39.040
affect one or two devices. And when that happens, there
needs to be a way that you can go back and fix the problem

00:39.040 --> 00:44.519
for a temporary measure while Google works out whatever
it is that's affecting your particular Chromebook

00:44.519 --> 00:52.480
So we want to step you through the process of actually reverting your Chromebook back
to an older version of the operating system in the event that you've updated and you're

00:52.480 --> 01:05.960
having some issues. Okay, so this process is relatively simple. You're going to go
into your Chromebook settings, and then the quickest way to get to your PowerWash

01:05.960 --> 01:12.120
is just to search it. If you search
PowerWash, you'll see it pop up right here

01:12.120 --> 01:17.679
Click your reset button. It's going to ask you if that's what you want to do. If that
is what you want to do, because what we're going to do first is actually get this

01:17.679 --> 01:24.780
thing completely factory reset. And then once it is factory
reset, we're going to do a key combo at that screen that's

01:24.780 --> 01:29.680
going to actually allow it to then revert.
So we've got to kind of clean it out first

01:29.680 --> 01:36.720
So this is the first time you're going to see the PowerWash screen.
If we try to do this shift control alt R here, it doesn't do anything

01:36.720 --> 01:43.040
So you actually have to be back to factory
settings before we can actually do the revert

01:43.040 --> 01:48.400
So you're going to go ahead and do the full PowerWash. It's going to
end up looking exactly like it did when you took it out of the box

01:48.400 --> 01:52.800
You'll see PowerWash in progress. This
takes no more than just a few seconds

01:52.800 --> 01:57.440
Okay, now that it's come back up, if you see
it looks just like when you got your phone

01:57.440 --> 02:01.920
book out of the box. We have PowerWash.
This thing is back to factory settings

02:01.920 --> 02:06.200
Now resist the temptation to click let's go
and sign in because we really haven't done

02:06.200 --> 02:12.240
anything to fix the issues just yet. So what you're going to need
to do from here is hit control shift alt, so these three keys

02:12.240 --> 02:16.240
in the bottom and R. You're going to
see the PowerWash screen come up again

02:16.240 --> 02:21.320
It's the same screen that you saw before. If we click
PowerWash here, we're not going to accomplish anything new

02:21.320 --> 02:28.520
That's the same thing. So hit control shift alt R again
and now we're going to choose PowerWash and revert

02:28.520 --> 02:32.600
This is what we want to do because this is
going to cause it to go back to the older

02:32.600 --> 02:39.280
version of Chrome OS. And as you hit that, it does
confirm that you want to return to a previous version

02:39.280 --> 02:44.400
Hit continue and it's going to take just a
few seconds and it will boot back up and be

02:44.600 --> 02:51.600
in the older version of Chrome OS. And as you
can see it is doing this, PowerWash in progress

02:51.600 --> 02:57.600
The same message we saw when we were PowerWashing before.
It is PowerWashing but it's PowerWashing and reverting back

02:57.600 --> 03:04.000
Alright and now we are back up. Now you are free to go ahead
and log in and get your stuff synced back up and use this

03:04.000 --> 03:13.200
device as you normally would until Google issues an update. Again, we don't
know exactly how long this reversion state will last on this Chromebook

03:13.200 --> 03:20.000
but from what we can tell, it lasts for a little while. So hopefully it's
going to last long enough that you don't have to worry about not restarting

03:20.000 --> 03:25.000
your Chromebook. But what I would highly recommend is
just keeping an eye on your notifications, keeping

03:25.000 --> 03:29.000
an eye on your settings, looking at your about
screen and your settings to see what version

03:29.000 --> 03:33.000
of Chrome OS you're on and to
see if an update has come through

03:33.000 --> 03:37.399
And if it's come through and you haven't heard
anything about a fix to your problem, I just

03:37.399 --> 03:44.000
wouldn't take that update which means you can't restart your Chromebook. Make sure
it stays on the charger and you're not powering it off or else you're going to

03:44.000 --> 03:52.200
have to kind of go through this process again. But guys, this is a
temporary fix for issues as they crop up with Chromebooks and new updates

03:52.200 --> 03:57.600
This is not a permanent fix. This is just something hopefully
to get you through and get you through to the point where

03:57.600 --> 04:02.200
Google has fixed the problem in the correct
way so you can take the update and move on

04:02.200 --> 04:07.200
with your life. But hopefully this helps. If it did, give
us a thumbs up, go down there and hit the subscribe button

04:07.399 --> 04:12.399
Make sure to hit the notification bell as well if you'd like
to be alerted when we make future videos just like this one

04:12.399 --> 04:18.399
And oh, by the way, click that join button if you'd like to see all the
cool stuff our members get like custom emojis and behind the scenes footage

04:18.399 --> 04:20.399
But until next time, we'll see you
