00:00.000 --> 00:06.000
Hi, my name is Granton Coleman. I play Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in
The Great Society at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center

00:16.000 --> 00:22.000
The thing I most respect about Dr. King was how
aware he was of his mortality and how he went about

00:22.000 --> 00:27.000
continuing his fight for civil rights and
human rights worldwide with that knowledge

00:27.000 --> 00:31.000
And the night before he was assassinated, he gave
a speech at Mission Temple Church in Memphis

00:31.000 --> 00:38.000
for a strike for the black garbage workers, and he said, Longevity
has its place, but I'm not concerned about that right now

00:38.000 --> 00:42.000
I've seen the promised land. I may not get
there with you, but I want you to know tonight

00:42.000 --> 00:47.000
that we as a people will get to the promised land. Mine
eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord

00:47.000 --> 00:54.000
And I think it's remarkable that he went forward with
everything he did, knowing that his death was imminent

00:57.000 --> 00:59.000
