WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:29.980
Hi everyone, welcome back to Catherine's plates. Look at all the deliciousness I have going on right here. We are going to make a banana split cake. I've never made this recipe before. This came from a friend of mine
that I've known for over 18 years. We were able to have lunch together the other day, and she was telling me about how she always makes this dessert for her son's birthday. Now, he's an adult now, so she's made it for me

00:29.980 --> 00:38.140
many many years so I'm going to give it a go
because it sounds delicious okay this is a no-bake

00:38.140 --> 00:45.460
icebox dessert okay no stove and oven going
on here today if you're ready let's go ahead

00:45.460 --> 00:51.340
and have some fun let's build this one up
first thing we're going to do is make our

00:51.340 --> 00:57.840
gram cracker crust that will fit in the bottom
of our baking dish now I'm just going to

00:57.840 --> 01:05.379
use my food processor here You can certainly just put these
in a Ziploc bag and crush them up that way if you'd like

01:08.700 --> 01:13.920
So I'm going to put three packets
of these gram crackers in here

01:14.480 --> 01:25.380
Now this is a 14 ounce box. You move about
two and a half cups of crushed graham crackers

01:28.100 --> 01:33.260
All right. Let get these going and then
I'll put that last packet in there

01:47.520 --> 01:56.020
Now what we want is a fine crumb with this. So I'm going to empty this out into a bowl and
then we're going to finish up these right here and then we're going to go on from there

01:58.860 --> 02:10.940
Mmm, bran crackers smell good, huh

02:12.940 --> 02:18.220
So we're using three quarters cup of
melted butter, which is a stick and a half

02:19.460 --> 02:28.840
I'm going to get my fork here. We're
going to blend this until all the crissue

02:28.840 --> 02:35.740
are coated with the butter. So I'm just
kind of forming it here right, making sure

02:35.740 --> 02:41.320
that it's going to form a nice crust,
which it is right there. Okay, let's go

02:41.320 --> 02:49.320
ahead and bring our 9 by 13 baking dish
over. Okay, now what I like to do is

02:49.320 --> 02:58.780
just lightly spray the bottom of my
dish. And then I'm going to pour my

02:58.860 --> 03:14.299
mixture into here and then just kind of form it. I just going to use my
fork and just start pressing down for a nice even crust on the bottom

03:14.299 --> 03:22.719
You do not need to go up on the sides with this.
Just make it sure it's nice and formed, solid

03:22.719 --> 03:30.319
Okay, now the reason why I sprayed my baking
dish before I put the mixture in was we're going

03:30.319 --> 03:36.759
to put this in the refrigerator and it's going
to chill for about 30 minutes to solidify

03:36.759 --> 03:42.259
Now the butter in that gram cracker crust
will solidify and help it make a solid crust

03:42.259 --> 03:49.559
Now when you spray the bottom of your dish, this
does not solidify in the refrigerator, okay

03:49.559 --> 03:55.559
So it'll make it easy to be able
to cut out pieces of our cake here

03:55.559 --> 04:02.439
Alright, so that's what's going to happen. in the refrigerator
for 30 minutes to chill to help lock this crust in

04:02.439 --> 04:07.119
and then we're gonna come back and start
filling this up. So our Graham Cracker

04:07.119 --> 04:12.219
crust is almost ready to come out of
the refrigerator. Now in a medium bowl I

04:12.219 --> 04:17.559
have eight ounces of cream cheese that
I've softened and to that I added a

04:17.559 --> 04:22.359
quarter cup of softened butter. And what
I'm gonna do is take a hand mixer here

04:22.359 --> 04:27.599
I'm gonna blend this together for about
five minutes until it's nice and creamy

04:27.759 --> 04:39.759
Okay, after the two minutes

04:39.759 --> 04:55.359
Okay, after the two-minute mark, we're going to
start incorporating three cups of powdered sugar

04:55.359 --> 05:02.159
and I'm going to do it one cup at a time.
All right, just scrape down the sides

05:02.159 --> 05:17.199
so we can incorporate everything. Right,
lucky today I have two people and two beaters

05:19.259 --> 05:25.339
Okay, look at how creamy this is.
Okay, let's go ahead now and bring out

05:25.339 --> 05:31.599
Our graham cracker crust over. Now this had
chilled in the refrigerator for 30 minutes

05:31.599 --> 05:35.879
Or if you don't have that much time, you can
stick that in your freezer for about 10 minutes

05:35.879 --> 05:40.159
to solidify your crust. Oh, that
looks really good. Nice and firm

05:40.159 --> 05:44.339
What I'm going to do is take our mixture here
and we're just going to put dollops all the

05:44.339 --> 05:50.359
way around. Now make sure you do
dollops. It's easy to spread that way

05:50.359 --> 05:57.759
Now I shared the beaters. I wonder who's going to get the bowl. Somebody
was complaining that one beater had more stuff left on it than the other one

05:57.759 --> 06:05.759
I have my daughter, Rihanna, and my husband, Thomas. And
they're going to have to fight over the bowl, I guess

06:05.759 --> 06:24.399
Alright I going to use my favorite tool when I baking and this is an offset spatula and it really easy to spread things using this instead of a spatula
But I will link these down below my description box if you want to check them out And also you can find these in my blog at www and my store items

06:24.399 --> 06:31.319
So now what we're going to do is just
smooth this out evenly over the crust

06:31.319 --> 06:40.059
Okay, I got this evenly spread in here. Okay,
I'm going to bring four bananas over here

06:40.059 --> 06:48.359
bring my cake back over here let's see
I can see that there we go I'm going to

06:48.359 --> 06:53.339
slice the bananas and we're gonna put
those all over the topping right here now

06:53.339 --> 06:58.499
there was a trick to peeling bananas if
you start at the bottom and you peel it

06:58.499 --> 07:04.739
all the string comes with it and then you
have no strings left if you peel it from

07:04.739 --> 07:09.699
the top down you always have those little
strings nice little tip huh all right we're

07:09.699 --> 07:15.399
going to use my yellow knife here since
we're doing bananas. All right and we're just

07:15.399 --> 07:21.939
going to layer them. So I may be doing
three bananas, we'll see. So I think it

07:21.939 --> 07:27.099
depends on the size of your bananas and
how thick you cut your bananas as to how

07:27.099 --> 07:32.739
many you're going to need three or four.
Mine were pretty big so I did three

07:32.739 --> 07:39.639
bananas for this right here. Okay I have
a 20 ounce can of pineapple. Now this is

07:39.699 --> 07:44.659
crushed pineapple. What you want to do before
you add this is make sure you drain it well

07:46.339 --> 07:53.399
So I was going to take the lid off. I've just got my
little strainer here over a bowl. I'm going to add it

07:54.519 --> 08:03.919
And then what I'm going to do is just take a fork and just mash it.
Do we can get all that juice out of there. You don't want this wet

08:05.839 --> 08:16.119
And don't worry. That juice ain't going anywhere. I love. pineapple juice.
Now if you want to use pineapple chunks you can do that also and you

08:16.119 --> 08:20.359
can put that on there. Just make sure it's
all drained very well. Okay once you get

08:20.359 --> 08:25.539
this drained we're going to put it on
top of our bananas nice and evenly

08:25.539 --> 08:31.699
And hopefully I told you the size of it.
It is the 20 ounces. Yeah we're still

08:31.699 --> 08:37.659
building up. Okay that's looking really
good. Go. Okay now we're going to top our

08:37.659 --> 08:44.019
banana pineapple mixture with a whipped
topping now you can either use cool whip

08:44.019 --> 08:54.699
that comes out of your refrigerated section of your store you just want to thaw
that out and then it's 12 ounces or you can do whipped topping now I'm using

08:54.699 --> 08:58.639
some heavy whipping cream and I'm gonna
make my own kind of cool whip version

08:58.639 --> 09:03.819
here so I've got 12 ounces of a heavy
whipping cream I'm just gonna put into a

09:03.819 --> 09:14.279
medium bowl I've just got my whisk attached onto my electric hand
mixer here. I'm going to beat this up until we get nice stiff peaks

09:14.919 --> 09:26.838
Now about halfway through before I get to that I going to add one tablespoon of powdered sugar
just to kind of sweeten this up like a cool whip All right That what you want right there

09:27.698 --> 09:33.698
You don't want to overmix because you don't want to
curdle it, but this is totally perfect right here

09:34.638 --> 09:39.718
Now, I didn't add too much powdered sugar
because this dessert is sweet enough

09:39.958 --> 09:45.478
All right, let's go ahead and bring our dessert back over here
and we're going to top it with the cool whip whipped topping

09:45.478 --> 09:50.038
we're going to do the same thing with the cool
whip that we did with the cream cheese mixture

09:50.038 --> 09:55.358
we're going to dollop it on here because it'll
make it really easy to spread out now the

09:55.358 --> 10:00.418
cool whip is really easy to spread so I'm
just going to use my spatula here and just

10:00.418 --> 10:06.838
spread it over the pineapple all right we're
going to go ahead now and start garnishing our

10:06.838 --> 10:12.678
cake with delicious toppings that we like
on a banana split cherries so these are

10:12.678 --> 10:17.318
maraschino cherries out of a jar I just dried them
and and then if they have stems on them, take them off

10:17.378 --> 10:21.558
and then I just kind of halved them and quartered
some of them, depending on how big they were

10:21.818 --> 10:27.418
So I'm going to place these all over my
cake here. Okay, I chopped up some beacons

10:27.938 --> 10:34.798
I'm going to add that to the top of the cherries
here. Of course, we like chocolate syrup on ours

10:34.898 --> 10:41.978
or you can put hot fudge and pour that over it. The last
thing I'm going to put on, I'm going to put some sprinkles

10:45.478 --> 10:58.658
Okay, this looks like a party.
Okay, there's one final step

10:58.858 --> 11:05.618
We have to put this in the refrigerator to
chill and set up for four hours or overnight

11:05.918 --> 11:10.398
Now, if you know at my house, four
hours is going to be the tops for this

11:10.758 --> 11:14.998
Got that right. All right,
guys, I'll be back and show you

11:15.478 --> 11:24.478
What's on the inside? Okay, look at
my icebox no bake banana split cake

11:24.478 --> 11:34.478
Doesn't that look like a party?
Look at the different layers

11:34.478 --> 11:49.478
Oh, who wants this bite right
here? Mmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mmm

11:49.478 --> 11:55.478
You know, the Graham Cracker crust down
there tastes like an ice cream cone

11:55.478 --> 12:01.478
We've got the bananas, the cool whip, the
chocolate syrup, there's cream cheese in there

12:01.478 --> 12:11.478
sprinkles, cherries. What are you putting on your banana split?
All right y'all, this is very creamy, very dreamy, very delicious
