WEBVTT

00:05.279 --> 00:07.430
Welcome to Disney this day. I'm Egon

00:07.430 --> 00:07.440

00:07.440 --> 00:10.709
Bonkers and on this day of 1942,

00:10.709 --> 00:10.719

00:10.719 --> 00:13.430
Walt Disney was the recipient of the

00:13.430 --> 00:13.440

00:13.440 --> 00:17.430
Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award during

00:17.430 --> 00:17.440

00:17.440 --> 00:20.710
the Academy Award ceremony. The honor is

00:20.710 --> 00:20.720

00:20.720 --> 00:23.349
a type of lifetime achievement award

00:23.349 --> 00:23.359

00:23.359 --> 00:25.590
that is given by the Academyy's board of

00:25.590 --> 00:25.600

00:25.600 --> 00:28.150
governors to creative producers who make

00:28.150 --> 00:28.160

00:28.160 --> 00:30.870
consistently high quality films.

00:30.870 --> 00:30.880

00:30.880 --> 00:33.430
Amazingly, Disney had only released

00:33.430 --> 00:33.440

00:33.440 --> 00:36.470
cartoon shorts and three feature films

00:36.470 --> 00:36.480

00:36.480 --> 00:39.110
at this time. The bulk of the studios

00:39.110 --> 00:39.120

00:39.120 --> 00:41.590
work, well, that was still to come. The

00:41.590 --> 00:41.600

00:41.600 --> 00:44.549
Thberg Memorial Award has only been

00:44.549 --> 00:44.559

00:44.559 --> 00:47.910
given 39 times throughout history, and

00:47.910 --> 00:47.920

00:47.920 --> 00:51.510
one of them was to Walt Disney. Did you

00:51.510 --> 00:51.520

00:51.520 --> 00:53.990
know about this one? I sure didn't. Kind

00:53.990 --> 00:54.000

00:54.000 --> 00:56.470
of interesting, though. Anyway, have a

00:56.470 --> 00:56.480

00:56.480 --> 00:59.800
magical day.
