WEBVTT

00:05.279 --> 00:07.520
Welcome to Disney this day. I'm Egon

00:07.520 --> 00:10.960
Bonkers. And on this day in 1960, Swiss

00:10.960 --> 00:14.480
Family Robinson opened in theaters. It

00:14.480 --> 00:17.680
was loosely based on the 1812 novel by

00:17.680 --> 00:21.359
Swiss author Johan David Weiss. A family

00:21.359 --> 00:23.600
in route to New Guinea is attacked by

00:23.600 --> 00:26.640
pirates and shipwrecked on a deserted

00:26.640 --> 00:30.400
island. Filmed in a realworld tobago,

00:30.400 --> 00:32.000
the resourceful group builds an

00:32.000 --> 00:35.120
elaborate treehouse and learns to thrive

00:35.120 --> 00:38.160
despite the island's hazards. Swiss

00:38.160 --> 00:40.320
Family Robinson was one of the most

00:40.320 --> 00:42.559
successful family films, well, ever

00:42.559 --> 00:45.040
made. In today's money, it would have

00:45.040 --> 00:47.920
earned uh $367

00:47.920 --> 00:49.520
million.

00:49.520 --> 00:53.120
and it was released 65 years ago today.

00:53.120 --> 00:55.360
Did you see it? Did you love it? I

00:55.360 --> 00:57.360
thought it was pretty fun, especially

00:57.360 --> 01:00.000
the treehouse part. Anyway, have a

01:00.000 --> 01:03.399
magical day.
